“Let us take a moment to pause and honor those that we have lost and the families and caregivers that have been impacted. In our own way and in silence, let us take a moment to reflect on those that are no longer with us and on the families and caregivers that provide care for individuals and families. Thank you, everyone”
International Overdose Awareness Day is a global event held on the August 31 each year and aims to raise awareness of overdose and reduce the stigma of a drug-related death. It also acknowledges the grief felt by families and friends, remembering those who died as a result of drug overdose. International Overdose Awareness Day also spreads the message that overdose death is preventable.
Thousands of people who use drugs die each year from drug overdose, and data show that overdose rates have risen to previous or higher levels during the pandemic.
