Pulmonary Care

A Pulmonologist is a physician who specializes in the respiratory system and the following related conditions:

  • asthma
  • chronic cough
  • chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • pulmonary hypertension
  • treatment of pulmonary nodules

If you suffer from asthma or smoking-related lung problems, a pulmonary test can help your doctor decide on a treatment plan.  Two diagnostic tests are done in the following sequence:

  1. Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) measures various volumes and capacities within a patient’s lungs by performing a series of different types of breathing maneuvers.
  2. A Methacholine Challenge Study evaluates the sensitivity of a patient’s lungs to help diagnose the severity of the patient’s disease, most commonly asthma.

Your test will be performed by one of four Registered Respiratory Therapists, all of whom are Certified Pulmonary Function Technologists.
