Weeks Medical Presents Mel Gallup Award for Outstanding Volunteer at Annual Event
Lancaster: Weeks Medical Center presented its 2016 Mel Gallup Memorial Award to Nancy Underhill of Lancaster. The award is given annually for outstanding volunteer service.
Underhill has been a volunteer at Weeks for 17 years and has provided more than 4,817 hours of service to the hospital. Underhill began volunteering in 1998 and has worked in several different departments including the cardiology and rehab departments as well as in customer service and the Sunshine Shop gift store. Underhill was praised for her friendliness, generosity, and dedicated service to Weeks Medical Center and its Volunteer Services department.
“Nancy is more than just an amazing volunteer,” said Margo Cliche, volunteer services director. “She can put a smile on your face just by entering a room. She will put in a full day of volunteering, then go and pick fresh flowers and bring them back to you to brighten your day. You’ll also see her everywhere sanitizing everyone’s counters. We are grateful for her many contributions to Weeks and our community.”
The Mel Gallup Memorial Award was established in 1982 to honor outstanding volunteers at Weeks Medical Center. The award is named for Melbourne James Gallup, who served as a volunteer at Weeks from 1976 to 1982, and who helped establish the award. An impartial selection committee reviews nominations submitted by Weeks staff members to determine the recipient of the award.
The Gallup Award was presented at the Weeks Volunteer Appreciation dinner held on April 14. The theme of the annual dinner was “1950s Soda Shop.” Volunteers and their guests were treated to a retro-style sock hop and dinner served by Weeks employees.
In addition, 23 other volunteers also were honored for their contributions to the hospital. Milestone Award pins were presented to volunteers for their many hours of service.
“I would like to thank all of our volunteers for their dedicated service to Weeks,” said Cliche. “Your support and assistance help us to provide care and services that benefit our entire community. Everyone at Weeks appreciates your incredible commitment to the hospital and your neighbors.”
